The 2016 AFL season has got off to an explosive start, and there’s still plenty of action to come. Over the coming months, we’ll see ups and downs as we wait to see who emerges victorious in October. Round One is already over, with some surprising outcomes. Nine games have been played and nine teams have already racked up four points each. But there’s still so much more to come. If you’re excited about the rest of the season, join us at Gramercy Bar & Kitchen. We’re ready to experience the ups and downs of the season through this autumn and winter.
There are a number of changes to the AFL rules this year. They include significant alterations to the interchange rules. Dangerous tackles now have a broader definition. And players with a mark or free kick now have a larger protective zone. These rules and more all change the way the game is changed and perhaps the outcome of the many matches in the season. Even the locations of matches have changed. All Sydney home games are now being played at Sydney Cricket Ground. This year’s season is also a chance to promote football as an inclusive game. The first LGBT pride game is scheduled between St Kilda and Sydney in October.
The experts have been getting in their predictions for who could have a chance this year. Some of the favourites for 2016 include Geelong (Cats) and Port Adelaide. Both have already won their first matches. GSW Giants and Collingwood (Magpies) have also both been pitched to be possible finalists. But they’re already trailing behind after the first round. Still, there are months left and everything still to play for. We will all have to watch closely to see where everything is heading.
At Gramercy Bar & Kitchen, we’re just as excited about this season as you are. To celebrate, we have a betting pot up for grabs at the end of the season. Register for one of our Gramercy Loyalty cards and you can earn extra points for your food and drink during the games. We also have some footy tipping going on during the season. Come and place your bets on who will win or lose in each of the rounds. The person with the highest score will win 50% of the pot money. The remaining 50% will be split between two more winners. 30% goes to the second place winner, and 10% goes to a third place customer.
